The Artists' Studio Gallery & School of Fine Art is a place in motion — always teaching, always showing, always bringing people together around the shared love of making and experiencing art.
Sally Nooney offers painting workshops throughout the year in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. These one-day intensive sessions are designed for adults at all experience levels — from complete beginners to practicing artists looking to expand their technique.
Watercolor workshops focus on the experimental, spontaneous aspects of the medium. Participants learn wet-into-wet techniques, color mixing for luminous washes, and the art of knowing when to stop. Sessions typically run 9AM–3PM or 10AM–4PM. Classes limited to 12 students.
Oil painting workshops cover fundamentals of color, value, and composition alongside the specific properties of oil paint — drying time, layering, glazing, and surface texture.
Acrylic painting workshops explore this versatile medium's unique properties — its quick drying time, its capacity for both transparent washes and opaque impasto effects, and its compatibility with mixed-media approaches.
The Artists' Studio welcomes requests for custom workshops from groups, clubs, corporate teams, and special events. A painting session makes a memorable team-building experience, a bachelorette party activity, or a birthday celebration with a creative difference.
The gallery hosts periodic openings to showcase new work by Sally and other regional artists. These events are open to the public and offer the opportunity to meet the artist and acquire original works in a festive atmosphere.
Sally occasionally offers free public demonstrations at the gallery, working through a painting from start to finish while explaining her process. For more information on art education in the region, the High Country Arts Council provides resources on galleries, classes, and cultural events throughout the North Carolina mountains.
